A Survey of Weaning Pattern on Infants and Young Children in Rural Areas.


Abstract
The purpose of this survey was to study the weaning pattern for infants and young children in rural area. The survey was conducted in a rural area located in Wonseoung County, Gang-Won Prevince during two periods of March and June in 1978. The survey covered a total 706, aged from 1 month to 6 years.
The results of this survey are as follows:
1) The rural children 81.7 percent were breast feeding babies.
2) The physical status of children subjected were lower than that of the Korean Standard.
3) Two percent of children started weaning at 1~6 months old, and 58.5 percent of children started weaning at 7~12 months old. The most popular supplemental food of weaning was cereals. There was practically no weaning diet for the infants in this gun.
The children of 5.7 percent completed the weaning by the age of 8~11 months, and 75.9 percent of children completed the weaning by the age of 23 months.
4) A total of 327 live-births was collected from 444 mothers having 1~3 live-births, and 30 children out of 327 live-births were dead, giving 9.2 percent of child mortality.
